Long Island is not an area of the United States in which tornadoes normally occur. While we have a lot of experience with thunderstorms, nor'easters, and hurricanes, most of us have never witnessed a tornado or hailstorm. The purpose of this project is for you to write a letter to someone who lives in Kansas, to see if you can learn a little bit about what it is like to live in an area known for unusual weather.

Procedure (Get on-line in our library, the Public Library, your house, or a friends house)

1- Using an online search engine, do a search for the White Pages in Kansas.

2- Pick a city in Kansas (Try to pick a big one) Below are just some suggestions:
Wichita, Dodge City, Garden City, Hutchinson, Lawrence, Leawood, Topeka, Shawnee Mission, Sauna, Pittsburg, Overland Park, Olathe, Newton, Manhattan, Lenexa

3- Try to find someone with your last name. If there is no one in that city with your name, go back and try another city. If you have trouble, then just pick a name. You need at least one name with a full street address (You can get more if you want (maximum of 20). For each response you get, you lose a quiz question zero or get an extra 100)

8- Type a letter to the person (or persons if you have more than one address). In it introduce yourself, and tell them what it is like living here. We can assume that they have never been here. You can tell them about the geography, the people, the traffic, whatever... Just make sure you tell them about our climate and weather. As a closing, ask them some questions about tornadoes and/or hailstorms
