Calculate the percent error.

2. As astronomer measures the distance from the sun to the Earth to be 152.6 million kilometers. Calculate the percent error

3. A geologist determines that silicon makes up 26.81% of the Earths crust by mass. Calculate the percent error

4. A chemist determines that the energy gained during the melting of one gram of ice was 73.2 calories. Calculate the percent error

5. An astronomer determines the average density of the Moon to be 3.67
            Calculate the percent error

       Calculate the percent error

ANSWERS
1.  Measured 0.34    accepted 0.19

(.34 – 0.19) / .19    x  100   = 78.9 %

2. Measured 152.6   accepted 149.6

(152.6 -149.6) / 149.6  x 100 = 2.0 %

3. Measured 26.91   accepted 28.15

(28.15 -26.81) / 28.15  x 100 = 4.8%

4. Measured 73.2    accepted  80.0

(80.0 – 73.2) / 80.0 x 100 = 8.5%

5. Measured 3.67   accepted 3.34

(3.67 – 3.34) / 3.34  x  100 = 9.9 %

6. Measured 3.13   accepted 3.14
(3.14 – 3.13) / 3.14  x 100  =  0.3%
